REDS EXCURSION TO FOTA ISLAND & COBH
To begin our weekend we had a cooked Irish breakfast which was appreciated by all. We then split in 2 buses by age for our EXCURSIONS to see this beautiful part of South-West Ireland.
Damien our photographer went with the Reds to Fota Island Wildlife Park and Cobh but next week you will see Blarney Castle and Kinsale as we rotate groups.
Fota Island is also where our golfers play and it is a lovely setting with the Wildlife Park in 100 acres and many kinds of animals are allowed to mix with the visitors in a natural setting. After a break in the café we were caught in the daily shower on our way back to the bus but it did not dampen the spirits of the group who enjoyed this unique conservation area and seeing at close hand so many animals.
After lunch in Cobh we visited the Heritage Museum Centre which is where the last passengers to board the Titanic sailed from. It is also where the Lusitania sank in World War I after being hit by a torpedo from a German submarine. It was interesting to see all the exhibits and film and also learn about the great Irish emigration to the new world of N.America after the potato famine in the 19th century. After a visit to the interesting museum shop we proceeded to a large shopping centre just outside Cork.
We ate supper in the centre of Cork and returned to the camp ready for a lie in and lazy morning with a later brunch and a chance for all to tidy their rooms. Sunday will be a day off for the online diary so stand by for a full report on Monday which will include some of the events of Sunday!
All were on time and the staff were happy with the behaviour of the campers. Well done to all.
