Departure Day -- End of Session One

Departure Day - End of Session One

Very quiet in the building right now -- most of the departures have already left and those campers staying over for the next session are off on various activites.  The cleaning staff and the counsellors will be working late to be sure that everything is ready for a new group of campers coming in tomorrow -- Departure Day is sad with everyone leaving but it is followed by Arrival Day with lots of happy campers.

The feature story below is about departure day and includes a couple of pictures of campers leaving or waiting to be picked up.

I will add TWO photo gallaries below that -- one with a lot of Graduation Day pictures -- all the language classes and a number of the club groups. The other photo gallery has some pictures of the food that we had on International Day.

Thanks for visiting our website/blog -- if your children are staying over for another session at Village Camps, Switzerland, be sure to keep visiting us.  If your children are heading home be sure that they get a chance to see the pictures also.

Remember Village Camps has camps in Austria, England, France, Ireland, and Switzerland all with a number on interesting and unique programmes -- maybe a new place for your children next year.

Have a wonderful day!!

Departure Day

Today is the last day of Session One for Village Camps, Switzerland.

Campers that were a little home sick two weeks ago and feeling very lonely amidst lots of new people are now sad that they are leaving some brand new life-long friends.

The first departure was actually yesterday and the rest started with the early train to Aigle this morning and will continue throughout most of the day.

Parents, thank you for trusting your most precious possessions with us for these past two weeks. We hope that next summer you will again consider Village Camps, Switzerland or one of our other camps in Austria, England, Ireland, or France.Today is a busy day for staff -- all the rooms have to be cleaned and made ready for the next group of campers arriving tomorrow.

12 July, 2008

Yesterday was a very special day at Village Camps, Switzerland.  It was the last full day of camp -- and it was really full.

During the morning session, the various camps and clubs had "Award" ceremonies for their campers and the Language classes had a real graduation ceremony in the Grand Salon.

After lunch and the all-camp meeting those campers leaving on Saturday were sent to their rooms to do their packing for departure day -- and then were allowed to participate in one of the activites going on around camp -- including a couple of football games at the sports centre.

In the evening the campers and counsellors got dressed in their best clothes for a gala meal (served by the counsellors).  While the meals was going on they were treated to a slide show of lots of photos from session one projected onto a large screen.  The slide show was prepared by Jessie, our camp photographer.

After dinner came Prom Night -- as I said, a rather full day.

The photo gallery below has picture from Prom Night -- the graduation pictures will be posted on the Departure Day post.

Graduation Day and Prom Night

Today was the last full day of Session One at Village Camps, Switzerland.  A chance for campers to be recognized for their achievements over the past two weeks.  The language classes had a full graduation ceremony in the Grand Salon and other camp programmes had some type of awards presentation.

The afternoon was devoted to a number of activities around Leysin and, most important, packing for departure tomorrow.  Campers being escorted are given instructions on where and when to meet.  Banker Wendy has all their money set up in envelopes for them and Mr. Phil will be at the airport making sure that everyone gets to the right place.

Tonight is a special night - the dining room is decorated (with decorations made by counsellors and campers) and, instead of standing in line to get their food, the campers' meal is served to them by the counsellors. During the meal there was a "slide show" of camp photos projected onto a large screen.  The show was prepared by Jessie, our camp photographer. After the meal there is a talent show and then some dancing.

Campers leave tomorrow...and a new batch arrives on Sunday

11 July, 2008

I'm a little late with this post -- had some real connection problems with the internet yesterday and wasn't able to get the photos up and running and had only part of the story for International Day running.  Things are going much better this morning.

The story below is about one of the favorite days at Village Camps, Switzerland.  Everyone has a great time preparing food, learning songs and dances, and creating skits for the different countries (or regions) represented.  This session we had groups for 10 countries (listed in the story below) plus the Junior Camp (the Greens) set up as Greenland. Not only is "Education Through Recreation" the Village Camps motto - we can also say that "the world is our campus."

There are a number of International Night photos in the photo gallery below -- and there will be another set of International Night with the "departure day" message -- this set will be devoted to the food from International Night

Graduation and Prom Night coming up tomorrow and then departure day -- it has been a very fast two weeks.

Remember, if you see someone without a smile -- give them one of yours
