10 July, 2008

Lots of things going on -- as usual.  Today is one of the big days at Village Camps, Switzerland.  Tonight is International Night -- campers have been working for a couple of days preparing skits, songs, and food representative of their home country or region (or one they have chosen to learn more about).

The Greens spent Tuesday night at the Mountain Hut -- a great experience for campers of all ages but especially fun for the younger campers -- the scenery is beautiful and the cow bells have a great sound.   The story below is about the Junior Camp (the Greens) and the photo gallery below has pictures from last night's Disco at Club 94 in the Mont Blanc building as well as some pictures of the Greens around the mountain hut.  There are also a few more cooking pictures as well -- many more tomorrow.

It has been a great day at Village Camps, Switzerland -- lots of sunshine and smiling faces

Have a wonderful day -- see you tomorrow!

Junior Camp at Village Camps, Switzerland

The Junior Camp is for campers aged 7-9 and carefully designed for young people who may be on their first time away from home for such an extended period (two weeks). The campers are called the “Greens” in our colour coded scheme for age groups. They are all housed in a separate wing of our building and do ALL of their day as a group – they eat together, have the same counsellors throughout the day, and the counsellors live in the wing with the campers. The goal is to make this as much a home-like experience as possible.

The Greens do the same activities as the other campers but they are regularly redesigned for this age group – for example they do a mountain climbing activity but it is much different than the one for the older campers – they also usually do the activities as a solo group, not mixed with older campers. Occasionally they will have an activity with the Yellow group (the next age level) .
