8 July, 2008

Before I start today's post, I have to report an error in an earlier posting. On 6 July, in the story on Festival Day I noted that the Vikings were the winners of the Festival Day games.  I wrote it in very small type -- but not small enough -- I have been told, in no uncertain terms, that the Mohicans were the winners.  I promised I would put this in much larger type -- so here goes

The Mohicans won the Festival Day Games*

As usual there are lots of things going on today at Village Camps, Switzerland. Classes, club activities, etc.

The tennis campers were up early today and they are on their way to Gstaad with tickets to the Swiss Open.  A chance for the tennis hopefuls to watch the pros play and dream about the future.

The Junior Camp will be taking a hike to the mountain hut this afternoon.  They will have dinner at the hut and spend the night there.  Tomorrow morning, after breakfast, they will hike back to camp -- I hope to have pictures of both trips for you to see either tomorrow or Thursday.

There is a story about Wendy's Bank and another set of pictures for you to view - just scroll on down.

I hope that your day goes well!!

*Could one of the Mohicans please untie me from my chair - I'd like to go to lunch

Wendy's Bank

Every camper at Village Camps, Switzerland is lucky enough to have a Numbered Swiss Bank Account.

Wendy is the camp banker and she is one of the people that get to meet and interact with every camper. When campers first arrive at camp they meet Wendy and they deposit their spending money with her. Wendy changes the money from whatever currency they use at home to Swiss Francs and she keeps the money safe for them.

The bank is open every day from 12 to 1:30 and, usually, extra hours before an excursion. Campers can draw just the amount of money they need for places like the tuck shop or little trips to the village or larger amounts for a Saturday excursion (which always includes SHOPPING).

Language classes occasionally come as a group with their teacher and the campers then have to give their bank number, name, and the amount of money they want using the language they are studying - either English or French.
