The skies were overcast this morning but this has not hindered the spirits of the campers.  We started the day with the Morning Boogie to get our bodies ready for the day.  We then took examined Mind Mapping.  What a great tool to use in school when taking notes or anytime there is a need to remember or organize information.  All of the colors, pictures and simplicity allows this to be utilized anywhere anytime.  We also identified what types of learners we are.  Some of us found out they are visual, some auditory and still others are kinesthetic.  What a great thing to know about yourself when in school and adapt to different teaching styles.  Throughout the morning we found time to play a few games as well.  Then it was back to the hotel for lunch before we departed for the Chateau de Chillion and Lake Geneva for the afternoon.  Many oohs and ahhs were heard as we took pictures and learned about the history of the chateau.  Afterwards, we took a walk along the boardwalk to the neighboring town of Montreux.  A creative team photo contest was performed before heading back to Leysin.  In the evening, we learned about the importance of acknowledging others, the 4 part apology and had a chance to give an autobiography.  What a fantastic full day!!  Tomorrow we examine writing strategies in the morning and go rafting/canyoning in the afternoon.  Sounds like fun!!

Despite waking to a cold and cloudy morning, campers were eager to find out more about Supercamp.  After a breakfast of fruit, cereal and an assortment of delicious breads, we headed to the Salle du Nord (a historic theatre) our “main room” for activities and learning.  We started the morning by going over camp expectations and exploring what Supercamp is all about.  A mixture of fun activities and games were in store for the remainder of the morning.  The “Morning Boogie” started the session and had the camper’s blood pumping.  We found out what is “it”, meaning that living for the present is as important as the past and the future, so why not dive into everything you do and make it the best.  We also learned everyone has a perfect memory you just need to figure out how to use it.  The clock strategy of memorization can be useful for all of life’s tasks and we experienced first hand how it can be used with the periodic table.  After lunch, we had a scavenger hunt in town to acclimate ourselves with our surroundings.  Trivia and naming our counselor groups followed.  In the evening, we continued to our team building exercises by problem solving situations like the “Lava Pit” and “Walk Across”.  Concluding the night campers reflected on the day’s events as a group and had the chance to share individual thoughts and feelings.  The campers are tired after a long day of travel yesterday and many activities today. However, there is energy of excitement and the anticipation is evident.  Tomorrow we examine how to speak with good purpose and explore the nearby Chateau de Chillion in the afternoon.  The excitement continues!

Welcome to Village Supercamp 2007 iAn beautiful Leysin, Switzerland!  Campers arrived with excitement and anxiousness of meeting their potential roommates, fellow campers and counselors.  What exactly are we going to be doing at Village Supercamp, was often heard.  However, after thoughtful explanations and feedback the campers began to settle in and feel comfortable.  Many welcoming games and activities were on schedule throughout the day to allow the campers to build confidence in themselves and those around them.  Anticipation of a fantastic ten days with new friends and learning experiences has led to a great beginning of camp at the magnificent Hotel Central Residence!
